Loren James, Psy.D.


Background:
Loren James, Psy.D., doctoral fellow, received his master and doctoral degrees from Rosemead School of Psychology in La Mirada, California. He completed his internship at Metropolitan State Hospital (Norwalk, California), working with the severely, chronically mentally ill. Specific areas of focus applied to the areas of forensics (“Mentally Disordered Offenders” and “Not Guilty by Reason of Insanity”) and the holistic treatment of patients struggling with a variety of psychotic and mood disorders, substance abuse and cognitive/developmental deficits.

Bio:
Dr. James earned a master degree from Dallas Theological Seminary, studying theology and counseling that emphasized a sensitivity and appreciation for the spiritual dimension that is so often a part of the healing process and value system for everyone, no matter what their religious preference. He has had experience working with a variety of personality disorders, grief, and several issues with which the gay and lesbian population interfaces, including chronic illness and family adjustment. In addition to treating individuals, he enjoys marital/couples therapy and premarital counseling, specializing in sexual issues/difficulties, rape/(childhood) sexual abuse and affair and divorce recovery. He has been certified in the “Prepare/Enrich” marriage and pre-marital assessment and therapy system since 1996. Along with the previously mentioned areas of interest and specialty, he also administers psychological assessments (and reports) for a variety of referral needs, including personality, intelligence and achievement, ADHD, cognitive deficits and learning disabilities. Dr. James is a member of both the American Psychological Association and the Georgia Psychological Association
