Doctors & Therapists

Nancy Garfield MPA, MSW, LCSW

Background:
Nancy is a licensed clinical social worker with broad experience in the management of a wide variety of disorders including schizophrenia, eating disorders, mood disorders, women’s issues,  and chemical dependency.  Her practice consists primarily of individual work with adolescents, young adults and adult men and women. Her dual Master’s degrees in social work and public administration, coupled with previous experience as an industry consultant, enable Nancy to bring an innovative, solution-focused approach to psychotherapy.

Nancy graduated with honors with a  Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from the University of South Carolina where she also earned Master Degrees in Social Work and Public Administration.  She is currently licensed and Board Certified as a Clinical Social Worker (L.C.S.W.) in the state of Georgia.  She has been in private practice at Northwest Behavioral Medicine since 1991.

Bio:
Nancy was born and raised in upstate NY but has resided in the Southeast for over 20 years.  She spent several years working as an industry consultant prior to finding her true passion in direct practice as a clinician.

Currently, Nancy also works as the Managing Director for Psychsource, a nonprofit organization which develops and distributes mental health resource guides.  Her goal, along with Medical Director, Michael Banov, M.D., is to expand the database nationwide to see that persons needing mental health help are able to easily and quickly navigate what can be a confusing and fragmented system.

Nancy is quite active and believes strongly in the power of healing.  She has much group experience although is currently not offering any groups. She works primarily with individuals, but does both family and couples work as well.  Approximately 25%-35% of her practice is working with adolescents and young adults, many with a history of treatment resistance.

In addition to psychotherapy, Ms. Garfield administers  testing for Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD), using the Integrated Visual and Auditory Continuous Performance Test .  She primarily screens adolescents and adults although will provide screening for ages as young as seven.
