Doctors & Therapists

Nancy Garfield MPA, MSW, LCSW

Background:

Nancy  Garfield is an experienced clinician with broad experience in the management of a wide variety of diagnoses including mood disorders [Depression, Bipolar], addictions, personality disorders, chemical dependency, Schizophrenia, Attention Deficit Disorder, and Psychosomaticism [connection between the mind and its physical manifestations].  Her experience in the mental health field is quite varied, having experience with both severe, and oftentimes chronic, mental illness, while working largely with persons navigating transitions and desire for growth and change on a more personal level.

Nancy graduated with honors with a B.A. in Psychology from the University of South Carolina where she also earned Master Degrees in Social Work and Public Administration.  She is currently licensed and Board Certified as a clinical social worker (LCSW) in the state of Georgia.  She has been in private practice at Northwest Behavioral Medicine since 1999 and is owner and president of Psychological Source, Inc. and Psychletherapy®.

Her practice consists primarily of individual work with adolescents, young adults and adult men and women. Approximately 30%-40% of her practice is working with adolescents and young adults, many with a history of treatment resistance.

In addition to individual psychotherapy, Ms. Garfield offers insight-oriented group therapy for adult men and women and late adolescent/ young adults. Both groups incorporate exercise as an integral and powerful component in the healing process.  For more information on the effects of exercise on the brain, go to www.psychletherapy.com.

Ms. Garfield also administers testing for Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD), using the Integrated Visual and Auditory Continuous Performance Test. Screening is generally limited to adolescents and adults although she is able to screen children as young as age 10.

Nancy’s dual Master’s degrees in social work and public administration, coupled with previous experience as an industry consultant, enable Nancy to bring an innovative, solution-focused approach to psychotherapy.
