About Robert W. Poynter, III, M.S., ED.S., LPC, NCC

Background:

Licensed Professional Counselor

Bio:

Grounded in a holistic, mindfulness-based theoretical orientation, I thoughtfully integrate a diverse range of evidence-informed techniques and interventions drawn from both Eastern and Western traditions. I am deeply committed to meeting each individual with presence, respect, and compassion for exactly where they are in the moment — whatever that may hold.

My approach is inherently multidisciplinary, weaving together the mind-body connection, neuroscience, psychology, quantum principles, and contemplative practices such as qigong and energy work. I hold advanced training and extensive experience in mindfulness-based stress reduction, breathwork, trauma recovery modalities, heart-brain coherence, heart rate variability, guided imagery, polyvagal theory, somatic experiencing (SE), bio-energy clearing, self-compassion practices, and clinical hypnotherapy. I am certified in several of these modalities, and I find that the more tools I have available, the more precisely I can support the unique needs of each individual and the issues that arise during the healing process.

I believe that true and lasting change occurs when the mental, emotional, physical, and energetic aspects of our lives are brought into alignment. My work is less about endlessly revisiting the past, and more about releasing the emotional responses, limiting narratives, and attachments to outdated patterns that keep us cycling through pain and suffering. Healing involves both letting go of unconscious programs that no longer serve us and consciously reprogramming a more empowered and loving image of ourselves. It is the sacred work of releasing what weighs us down while cultivating new, life-affirming habits that support a healthier, more joyful existence.

I support individuals in gently releasing automatic defenses and facing their inner challenges with honesty and self-compassion. Through a combination of deep listening, intuitive insight, and evidence-based tools, I help clients reframe limiting beliefs, build emotional resilience, strengthen self-acceptance, and reclaim a deeper sense of personal connection. Central to my approach is the creation of a safe, trusting space where clients feel fully seen, heard, and free to express their authentic selves.

Balancing empathy and emotional sensitivity with clear guidance and intuitive awareness, I meet each person with a blend of gentle presence and grounded support, always attuned to what is needed in the moment. I believe we all create and carry out habits — some helpful, some harmful — that have been shaped by our families, our environments, and even ancestral imprints. Lasting transformation requires awareness of these patterns and the willingness to shift them at the mental, emotional, physiological, and energetic levels.

Outside of my professional work, I cherish time with my wife and son — especially our family adventures, hugs, and laughter. I stay grounded and active through yoga, weight training, hiking, kayaking, camping, and snowboarding. I find inspiration and balance by staying connected to nature and practicing mindfulness, meditation, and energy work in everyday life.
